Ringing phone reveals hiding fugitive

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A man is in custody after an hours-long SWAT standoff at an east side business. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said they knew the man was hiding inside because they could hear his cell phone ringing when officers called it.

MCSO said Sylvester Foster, 31, refused to come out of an auto painting business near 38th Street and Arlington Avenue, and after about four hours, SWAT officers entered the building and arrested him without incident. He was hiding in a closet, MCSO said, and officers could hear his cell phone ringing.

He was wanted on a warrant for contempt of court and failure to appear for a traffic violation, MCSO. Now, he faces the added preliminary charge of resisting law enforcement because of the SWAT action.

Foster was being taken to Marion County Jail on Monday afternoon.
