BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A southern Indiana man has been sentenced to eight years for fleeing an accident scene after his truck skidded on ice and killed a woman.

Twenty-eight-year-old Thomas Dillman of Bloomington told a Monroe Circuit Court judge Thursday he "was such a coward" for fleeing the scene of the December 2010 accident that killed 25-year-old Lacey Deckard. Dillman had been convicted of leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

The Herald-Times reports Deckard had stopped along an icy road to help her brother after his car slid off the roadway.

She was standing next to her Jeep when Dillman's truck slid on the same icy road and ran over her, trapping Deckard beneath it.

Dillman ran off after he and others tried and failed to move his truck.
