Salvation Army volunteer gets 70 years for sex with teens

FRANKLIN (WISH) - The Salvation Army Volunteer accused of molesting three teens he met as a volunteer and then plotted to kill has been sentenced to 70 years for prison.

Jonathon Hartman was a volunteer music instructor when he slept with the girls during a youth band program.

"I am pleased that we have effectively caged this predator for the rest of his life.” Johnson County prosecutor Brad Cooper said. “However, as prosecutor and a parent, I hope this case serves as a warning to other parents that there are child predators who seek out similar positions of trust in order to victimize children."

Police say the girls had sex with Hartman at the church, at their homes and at his parents home in Indianapolis. According to police, one of the 15-year-olds is pregnant and Hartman is the father.

Investigators said Hartman schemed with another inmate to kill that girl. Little did he know, they say, that the inmate was a confidential informant.
