Search continues for Carmel teen’s body

JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Police sources told TV station WDRB in Louisville Wednesday that they believe the body of 18-year-old Andrew Compton may be in a television box.

A team of 51 cadets returned to a massive landfill in Jackson County Wednesday morning to search for the body of Compton, from Carmel.

The team believes they are in the right place based on what a Louisville man who confessed to killing Compton told them.

Gregory O’Bryan, 40, spent the night behind bars and made an initial appearance in court on Wednesday. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

O’Bryan told police he had sexual relations with Compton. He told police he continued having sex with the teen after he died.

And then, said he disposed of the victim's body. Initially, the suspect lied about what had happened.

The Compton family says they last heard from Andrew October 28. They knew something was wrong. Andrew’s brother managed to crack his password and discovered he'd met O’Bryan online. The two had plans to meet.

24-Hour News 8 Reporter Daniel Miller spoke with a friend of Andrew's , who said he told his friend to be careful when meeting people online.

Surveillance video captured Andrew leaving his dorm at Sullivan University in Kentucky on October 28.

Compton's family told 24-Hour News 8 they will stay in Louisville until their son's body is found and are refusing all media requests.

O’Bryan faces charges of murder, abuse of a corpse: sexual intercourse, and tampering with physical evidence.

His bond has been set at $1 million.

O'Bryan is scheduled to appear in court on November 22.
