Second teen sentenced in IBE shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A second teen will serve nearly a year on probation after pleading guilty in connection with t he shooting at the 2010 Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration .

Robert Wells, 17, pleaded guilty Monday to criminal gang activity, according to court officials. He was sentenced to 365 days in jail, but 331 were suspended. He had served 17 days, and received credit for another 17. He will serve 331 days on probation, the court said.

Wells and his mother, Michell Hurns, who worked at the Marion County Jail, were arrested in July 2010 and accused of being involved with the Grimmie Boyz, a street gang police said was had been feuding with IBE shooter Shamus Patton’s gang, the Ratchet Boyz.

Patton, 18, pleaded guilty July 13 to several battery charges in connection with the shooting and was sentenced to eight years in prison .

Hurns ultimately pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. Police said she became violent as officers served a search warrant at her home in July 2010.
