MARION COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Sex and Violent Offender Unit have arrested a convicted sex offender.
Terry A. Gilfillen, 37, was arrested and preliminarily charged with two felony charges in violation of the state’s sex and violent offender registry law, according to a release.
Deputies say Gilfillen used a social website without reporting his usage to authorities. It was recently ruled by the 7th Circuit United States Court of Appeals that a convicted sex offender could use a social website, they just need to register and report when they are using them to local authorities.
It was also uncovered during the investigation on Gilfillen that he registered a car from the BMV without notifying the Sheriff’s Office.
He was convicted in Jan. 2001 of three counts of child molestation, a Class A felony. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison with five years suspended.
Gilfillen was on probation for his convictions when he was arrested.
