SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A plea deal was entered Thursday for a Shelbyville High School cheer coach accused of having sex with a student.
22-year-old Megan Crafton was arrested on charges of seduction of a minor. Police say her role as an educator is what sent her to jail.
The alleged victim was 17 years old and a member of the Shelbyville basketball team.
The relationship between Crafton and the teen was not illegal, but because she held a part-time position at the school made the relationship a crime, police said.
Court records show Crafton admitted to performing sex acts on the teen in her car.
Police say their relationship began in January 2012.
Crafton will serve a year and a half of probation. After her probation Crafton can make a petition to make the felony charge a misdemeanor, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner The Shelbyville News reports.
Crafton will not have to register as a sex offender.
