SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - A Shelbyville man arrested last month on accusations of false informing now faces charges of child molesting after investigators said he a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl.
Justin Edward Smith, 25, was arrested last month after making what police said were false accusations against a relative, 24-Hour News 8 news partner the Shelbyville News reports. In the course of that investigation, the relative told police of her worries over his living arrangements and potential inappropriate relationships with young girls, according to court documents.
Smith was in court Monday for his initial hearing on the molestation charges. He is being held in the Shelby County Jail on $40,000 bond for those charges; a separate $7,500 bond had already been set on the earlier obstruction of justice and false informing charges.
