INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The store employee police say was shot by a shoplifter Friday night is out of the hospital and is recovering at home.
The shooting happened Friday night at the Shoe Carnival in the 4600 block of Lafayette Road. Police say a loss prevention worker had detained a suspected shoplifter and handcuffed him to a chair.
Officers say the shoplifter pulled out a gun and shot the employee in the chest.
Police found the suspect in a ditch nearby a short time later.
They have identified him as 30-year old Nicholas Atwood. He faces a preliminary charge of aggravated battery.
The store was closed Saturday but a sign in the window said it would reopen Sunday.
