KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) - A man was shot and dumped outside of a hospital in Kokomo and his struggle for help was all caught on tape.
Police said the victim is not cooperating with the investigation, that's why they are hoping someone recognizes the car in the surveillance video.
Investigators say the driver of the car who dumped the victim has the information they need to solve help the case.
If you recognize the car, Kokomo police want to hear from you.
Sunday, the car was caught on surveillance video outside St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Room. What happened next shocked even detectives.
"Initially, officers were sent there around 4:20 on Saturday in reference to shots fired at the emergency room," said Detective Mike Banush with the Kokomo Police Department.
What turned out to be shots fired ended up being a man who had been shot and dumped outside the emergency room. In the video, the passenger's side door opens and a man falls out of the car. Police say that man is 27-year-old Darius Liggin.
Investigators said Liggin had a gunshot wound to his leg, and a cut on his arm. In the video, you can see Liggin trying to crawl and get help. Minutes later, someone finally noticed him and several hospital workers rolled out two wheelchairs to help him. Even security came out to the area.
Medics treated him at St. Joseph Hospital, but transported him to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
"We had this happen before here, but this is a little different. Usually when ever you have a victim that's shot, they'll tell you what happened," Banush said.
Detectives have questioned Liggin about the shooting, but he's not talking.
"He's not cooperating; and we want to know why," Banush said.
Detective Banush said that's why they need help locating the car and the driver. The surveillance video was unable to get the license plate of the car.
"The door is still open when the car drives away and they are wanting to get out of there, so we need to find out who the driver is and who the car belongs to," Det. Banush said.
Police believe the car is an older model, two door white Mercedes.
Anyone who recognizes the vehicle call is asked to call Kokomo Police at 765-456-7017 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
