LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WISH) - A man who police said fired a gun near Lafayette City Hall on Tuesday was arrested on gun charges.
As officers in the City Hall parking lot who heard the shots fired at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday went to investigate, they were approached by a crying woman and a man following her. Investigators also found spent ammunition casings in the parking lot of the nearby Regions Bank. It is believed the gun was fired into the air. No injuries or property damage was reported in the immediate area.
The man, Jarrod Phillips, 23, Lafayette, was carrying a handgun with the serial number obscured, police said. He was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a handgun with an obliterated serial number and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
He was arrested and taken to the Tippecanoe County Jail on $10,000 bond.
