Simmons guilty of attempted murder

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Richard Simmons was found guilty on 4 counts of attempted murder after firing an AK 47 at officers during an attempted arrest. He was later arrested during after a four hour standoff inside his Morgan County home.

The jury heard final arguments on Tuesday. After deliberating for nearly 9 hours, the jury came to a verdict.

Simmons was found guilty on the 4 counts of attempted murder, 2 counts of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, unlawful use of body armor, possession of marijuana.

However, he was found not guilty on possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, and not guilty on two counts of receiving stolen property.

Simmons will be sentenced on September 14.
