MUNCIE, Ind. (WISH) - A Muncie man has been sentenced to the maximum prison sentence for his role in his 5-year-old stepgrandaughter's death.
Robert Lee pleaded guilty to aiding, inducing or causing neglect of a dependent in April and on Monday was sentenced to 40 years in prison. His stepgrandaughter Lauren McConniel died in March 2010 after she was hospitalized with lethal salt levels and weighing only 28 pounds.
As part of his plea agreement, 40 years was the maximum sentence he could receive.
At his guilty plea hearing, Lee told the court he had discussed with his stepdaughter, Brittany McConniel, the brutal punishments she later inflicted on her stepdaughter . He also acknowledged he never contacted
authorities about the abuse or Lauren's deteriorating health.
Brittany McConniel was previously sentenced to 50 years in prison .
