Stepmom arrested in abuse of toddler

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A toddler's stepmom is in jail after police were called to an Indianapolis home on reports of an unconscious child Sunday afternoon.

Police found the 2-year-old breathing, but unconscious in the home in the 8000 block of Sansa Street.

Medics already on the scene told police that the boy’s condition was consistent with significant head trauma, possibly from abuse.

The stepmother, Autumn Dunn told police that the boy woke up at 4 a.m. and was up for awhile before going back to bed.

Around 2:30p.m., Dunn says she went to check on him and was unable to wake the toddler. She then woke her husband, who also failed to wake the cold, shallow breathing boy.

Dunn told police that earlier in the morning the boy had fallen down in the yard while playing with a ball, but appeared to be unharmed.

The boy was transported to Riley Hospital and his condition is unknown.

The boy’s father went to the hospital and told police that his son lives with his mother in Mooresville, but visits on the weekends. He said the boy appeared to be behaving in a normal manner the entire weekend he was visiting.

After investigating, police arrested Dunn, 29, of Indianapolis on charges of Battery and Neglect.

The prosecutor’s office tells 24-Hour News 8 that Dunn’s initial hearing will be Tuesday, May 22nd at 1:30 p.m.
