CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) -  A judge has sentenced a Gary woman to 35 years in prison in the death of a stepson who was starved, beaten and kept in a dog cage.

The Times of Munster reports that Lake Superior Court Judge Diane Boswell sentenced 47-year-old Kimberly Kubina on Tuesday on a neglect charge the woman pleaded guilty to last May.

The abused body of 13-year-old Christian Choate was recovered from a shallow grave in a Gary mobile home park in May 2011, more than two years after his death.

Boswell sentenced Kubina's ex-husband, 40-year-old Riley Choate, to 80 years in prison last month after he pleaded guilty to two counts of neglect and other charges.
