INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A close call for a mother and her three-month-old baby Tuesday morning, after two armed robbers broke into their home on the city's southwest side.

24-Hour News 8 sat down with them Tuesday evening.

Nayeli Garzon-Jimenez and Adolfo Angeles-Morales say a man and a woman broke into their home while Adolfo was at work. It happened on the 4900 block of West Regent Street.

Garzon was on the phone with her husband when she heard a sound from the back door.

“I told her, go check, who is it because I’m already at my job. In the same second, I hear the noise over my phone and she started screaming and crying, and said, someone just stuck their hand in the door,” said Angeles-Morales, speaking for his wife, who speaks only Spanish.

She saw two people, a man and a woman, come into her house after breaking through the back door.

“The guy say, ‘Give me the money or we take the baby,” said Angeles-Morales.

Garzon said in Spanish, “The man said, ‘Money, money.’ I said, I don’t have any.”

When Garzon didn't give them any money, she said the woman grabbed her baby.

“She fought with the lady, because she tried to go by the kitchen, and she held her by the shirt. Then guy come back and hit her with a gun,” added Angeles-Morales.

They said the woman ran toward the back door with the baby.

But there was something else waiting for her at the back door.

“She try to run away through the back door, but one of the doggies- he didn’t let her go through the back door,” said Angeles-Morales.

The woman was stopped by one of the couple’s dogs at the back door. They say she was forced to run toward the front door, and in the process threw the baby back at Garzon.

“Thank god everything’s okay, my baby and my wife,” said Angeles-Morales.

Garzon and the three-month-old girl were treated and released at Wishard Hospital. Garzon had a cut on her forehead from being hit with a gun, and bruises on her body. Her baby was okay as well.

Police are looking for a black man around 35 years old, 6-foot-2, heavy set with light skin, a close-cut beard and acne scars. He’s believed to be armed and dangerous. The other suspect is a black woman in her mid-20s about 5-foot-10, heavy build with braided hair pulled back in a pony tail. She had two lip piercings and an eyebrow piercing.

The suspects left the scene in a 2002-2007 chocolate brown van with tinted windows and windows that extend down the passenger side. There might be a dent in the passenger side door.

Anyone with information is asked to call IMPD at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
