Suspects sought in quick change scheme

ELLETTSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Police in Ellettsville are seeking the public’s help to identify two suspects in a quick change scheme.

The two suspects are believe to have been involved in two similar incidents at two area retailers, Tractor Supply and IGA, police said, and a third incident at Dollar General may also involve the same people.

One of the suspects, described as a black male in his late 30s to early 40s, with a mustache, last seen wearing a blue and white flannel shirt, jeans, work boots and a brown stocking cap, purchased a small item at Tractor Supply, then asked for change several times until the clerk became overwhelmed and could not focus on exactly how much money had changed hands, according to a news release from Ellettsville Police Department.

When the clerk realized something was wrong, he attempted to return the money and end the transaction. After the man left the store, however, the clerk realized he was missing money from the register.

During the similar incident at IGA, two black males were reportedly involved, but no further description was available as of Wednesday morning. A third report about a Family Dollar incident is pending, police said.

EPD is warning area businesses to be cautious of anyone asking for unusual amounts of change, and to report any incidents as they occur.

Anyone with information should call the Ellettsville Police Department at 812-876-2270.
