RUSH COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - A crash reduction patrol on State Road 3 Monday afternoon led to a heroin bust in Rush County.
As Pendleton trooper Chris Yeend drove northbound behind a pickup truck, a southbound white delivery van swerved into the northbound lane. The pickup had to swerve to avoid a collision.
Yeend turned his car around to stop the van. Yeend and an assisting trooper, Aaron Edwards, found the driver, 25-year-old Samuel L. Stirlen, in possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle after further investigation.
He was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to the Rush County Jail.
