Ex-player gets no jail time hazing case

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - Ex-Carmel basketball player Scott Laskowski will spend no time in jail, a Hamilton County judge decided Thursday afternoon.

The judge sentenced Laskowski to 365 days of probation, with two days already served. Laskowski will also have to perform 40 hours of community service and pay court and probation costs. He can’t have contacted with the alleged victim who testified against him on Thursday.

“You destroyed part of me I will never be able to get back,” one of Laskowski's alleged victims said in court Thursday afternoon.

Laskowski pleaded guilty to misdemeanor criminal reckless charges stemming from an incident involving a younger member of the basketball team. It’s a story 24-Hour News 8 broke back in February.

Laskowski told the judge that he was “Sorry for the impact my actions have had on (the victim),”Never did I think what I did would affect so many people… I’m very sorry.”

In the end Laskowski pleaded guilty to "Grabbing and holding" the victim in the Carmel High School locker room.

According to the plea deal, Laskowski would also have to help investigators and testify if other cases go to trial.

The victim who testified Thursday was the alleged victim in one of the charges that was dropped against Laskowski.

“Why did you have to make a joke out of me?” he asked, “I just want to know, why did you do it?”

“No one should have to go through being humiliated.”

That victim, Robert Turner's client, told the judge he had contemplated suicide following the alleged attacks.

Laskowski, Robert Kitzinger, Brandon Hodge, and Oscar Faladon are all accused of assaulting a 15-year-old in the locker room at Carmel High School and on a bus as Carmel's basketball team was heading back from an away game.

Now, attorneys for Robert Kitzinger have asked for the case to be moved to a different county.

Lawyers filed the change of venue request back in June.

They say there's been too much publicity on the case for the former students to get a fair trial.
