Teen arrested in theft of $16,000 in video games

AVON, Ind. (WISH) - An Avon teen is in jail, accused of stealing $16,000 worth of video games from a local superstore.

Ariel Galbreath, 19, was arrested Monday. Investigators say he and an accomplice swiped the video games from the Walmart on U.S. 36 in the overnight hours on a number of occasions. Police are still looking for the accomplice, whom they identified as Marquis Bell, 18, Indianapolis.

The two would walk over to the video game section, police said, then load the games into a cart or a duffle bag and walk right out the front door.

“What you have here is a situation where two gentlemen used that approach over time. That’s where the greed is going to get you jammed up," said Avon Police Department Detective Brian Nugent.

Police said the two did this 12 times in the month of March, around the same time and at the same location. Investigators said Galbreath would even wear a distinctive black jacket when committing the crime.

The spree started to unravel when store workers noticed game sales didn’t match the stores inventory. They looked at surveillance video, spotted Galbreath and called Avon Police. Investigators recognized the Avon man and arrested him.

Police said Galbreath admitted to the crimes and told police he also robbed a local Taco Bell.

Galbreath was being held Friday in the Hendricks County Jail on $5,000 bond.
