Teen charged with murder after crime spree

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - One of two teenagers accused in last week's deadly crime spree is now facing charges in adult court for murder, attempted murder and possession of a handgun without a license.

24-Hour News 8 spoke with his mother inside the Marion County courthouse Tuesday.

Sirquain Burr, 17, was supposed to go before a judge Tuesday morning, but that hearing was postponed.

Burr is already facing charges of robbery, attempted robbery and auto theft that from a Feb. 11 incident.

Police arrested Burr and a 15-year-old two days later, when, they say, the teens shot and killed one man, and shot a second who lived.

Then they took police on a high-speed police chase that ended in a crash.

“Regardless of what he did, he's my child,” Burr’s mother, Tyease Dunn, said after the postponed court hearing.

Dunn did apologize to the victims' families for what they're going through, but she said she doesn't know what role her son actually played.

“God makes no mistakes,” Dunn said. “No matter what we teach our kids, they go their own paths, but we're pretty sure that God is watching over him.”

in the probably cause report, a 15-year-old getaway driver points the finger squarely at Burr.

The boy tells police that he and Burr spotted John Yingling's pick up truck warming up in the driveway. According to the boy, Burr got out of the car he heard a pop, and Burr got back in the car with a gun.

Police would later find Yingling dead in his pick up truck from a single gun shot wound.

Burr's court hearing is rescheduled for 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The 15-year-old accomplice will face a judge in juvenile court on Thursday at 10 a.m.
