ELKHART, Ind. (AP) - A 17-year-old has been charged as an adult with murder in the death of a 74-year-old Elkhart woman whose body was found inside her home last week.
Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill Jr. announced Friday that Luis A. Bailey of Goshen had been charged with murder in the death of Norma Hopper. She died of blunt force trauma to the head.
Hill said Hopper called the sheriff's department shortly after 3 a.m. on Dec. 21 saying someone was ringing her doorbell. Hill said officers arrived about half an hour later and found nothing suspicious.
A niece found Hopper dead seven hours later.
Court records do not show whether Bailey has hired an attorney. He is being held in the Elkhart County Correctional Facility without bond.
