PERU, Ind. (WISH) - Four Miami County teens were arrested on drug-related charges after a traffic stop.

Indiana State Police said Trooper Luke Bowyer noticed drug paraphernalia and the smell of marijuana after pulling over a GMC Sierra pickup truck that was speeding on North Eel River Cemetery Road.

During a search of the truck and passengers, psilocybin mushrooms, a hallucinogenic commonly known as shrooms, were found in a truck and in the possession of two teens, ISP said.

Arrested were:

  • Jhonathan R. Bellar, 18, Peru, who was driving the truck; charged with maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony; he was released on bond from the Miami County Jail.
  • Mayson T. Benedict, 19, Denver, Ind.; charged with possession of a Schedule 1 narcotic (psilocybin mushrooms); he was released on bond from the Miami County Jail.
  • Aleck D. Akemon, 18, Macy, charged with possession of a Schedule 1 narcotic (psilocybin mushrooms); he was released on bond from the Miami County Jail.
  • A 16-year-old female was released to the custody of her mother; ISP said psilocybin mushrooms were found in her purse, and a report will be forwarded to the Miami County prosecutor’s office for consideration of charges.
