Teen's murder charges dropped

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Southwestern Indiana prosecutors have dropped charges against a 17-year-old boy who was one of three Evansville teenagers accused of killing a homeless man.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports a Vanderburgh County judge dismissed charges against the teen Friday at prosecutors' request.

Deputy Prosecutor Mike Perry said that evidence against the teen wouldn't be ready in time for his Nov. 12 trial, but prosecutors reserved the right to refile charges against him.

Eighteen-year-old William Hurt and 19-year-old Deadra Hurt still face murder and other felony charges in the beating and strangling death of 54-year-old Marcus E. Golike.

Another judge ruled Thursday that prosecutors could not use a statement Deadra Hurt gave to police against her.

Golike's body was found in the Ohio River on June 17.
