LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) - Police in Lawrence are searching for answers in a robbery at a grocery story.
On Sunday, two masked gunmen stormed a Kroger in the 9800 block of Fall Creek Road. Once inside, the two held a clerk hostage and demanded money from a safe.
The clerk in response told the two there was not any money in the safe. That's when one of the suspects ordered his accomplice to pull the trigger.
"Just shoot him then if we can't get in the safe," said one of the suspects, according to police.
The clerk then emptied a cash register and gave the suspects $600 in cash.
"It's always scary. I've been a resident here for nine years," said Carissa Candido.
Detectives are waiting to receive surveillance video from Kroger. Police hope the cameras will show what direction the suspects entered and left the store.
A Kroger spokesman declined to comment on the robbery because of the pending investigation.
The incident happened just days after a woman’s purse was taken and she was dragged in the parking lot of CVS Pharmacy at Geist Center, located at Fox and Oaklandon roads.
