TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute canine officers made a major pot bust on a traffic stop on I-70 Sunday evening. They recovered nine 25 pound bricks of marijuana, a totaling over 200 pounds, with an estimated street value of $250,000.
Detectives say they were initially alerted because the driver of the van and trailer couldn't stay in his lane and when an officer pulled him over, a canine unit indicated there were drugs inside the trailer.
"At that point, I turned around to look back and the guy almost fell on his face from nervousness," said Terre Haute Officer Brent Long. "Usually in the city we get smaller amounts, a pound here a couple pounds there. So, to get 217 pounds, is pretty big for us."
The driver was identified as 54-year-old Ramon Platt and he's currently in the Vigo County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Platt's due back in court Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Immigration also has a hold on him.
