ANDERSON, Ind. (WISH) - Anderson Police are asking for the public’s help to find the person or people who shot two horses, killing one of them.
A neighbor discovered the horses Wednesday in their pasture in the 1500 block of West 60th Street.
Detective Joel Sandefur said the horses were wounded by a handgun and a shotgun and had been shot multiple times.
“There are woods nearby but the placement of the shell casings and the placement of the animals would indicate that more than likely this was not an accident,” said Sandefur.
Sandefur said shell casings were found near the scene.
“It breaks my heart,” said Bobby Stone, who owns the horses. “I raised these two to last me a lifetime. It just kills me.”
Lucy, 6, died. The surviving horse, named Sonny, is being treated at Purdue University Animal Hospital. Thursday afternoon, he was listed in serious condition.
Anyone with information is asked to call Anderson Police.
“Friends of Sonny” will hold a fundraiser to help Stone with mounting medical bills. The chili luncheon, horse and Harley ride will take place Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Moonsville Conservation Club, located at 600 North and 350 East in Alexandria.
