Carmel sees first bank robbery in years

CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) - Police are searching for suspects involved in a bank robbery around 11 a.m. Monday.

According to Hamilton County dispatch, suspects entered Ameriana Bank, 3975 W. 106th St. in Carmel, demanded an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Dispatch says the description of the suspects are two men — one wearing a dark blue hoodie, ski mask and black pants and the other wearing a black hoodie, a ski mask and black pants. Both men had handguns, according to dispatch.

A release said police set up a perimeter and searched the area with K-9s, although they were unable to locate the suspects.

No schools were locked down as a result.

Carmel will turn to Indianapolis Metro Police Department to see if some recent bank robberies in Indy may be connected.

Last year, Carmel police responded to seven armed robberies. None of those cases included bank robberies

The last bank robbery in Carmel happened three years ago.

"It doesn't happen that often in Carmel,” said Carmel Police Lt. Jeff Horner.
