Victim of voyeurism speaks out

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - An Indianapolis man convicted of voyeurism is caught in the act again.

Adam Mittler is behind bars facing charges of voyeurism. An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer found him inside of a woman's restroom stall at the downtown Hyatt taking pictures of women with his cell phone.

For one Indianapolis woman it's a familiar story.

"That's the man I chased down, that's the man I chased down. I caught him," said Kelly Stone.

Stone cringes when she looks at a picture of 33 year-old Adam Mittler.

"I was afraid to go in to dressing rooms for a year because of this man," she said.

In September of 2010, Stone was inside a Castleton Square Mall store when she caught him taking cell phone pictures of her while she was in a dressing room.

"I chased him down, I ripped the phone out of his hand and there was no protocol in place for an offense like this at the mall," Stone said.

In February of 2011, Mittler was sentenced to 545 days of probation for the offense. He pleaded guilty to a voyeurism charge.

"It's a misdemeanor, a Class B misdemeanor in the state of Indiana. Voyeurism is not a sex crime," Stone said.

Stone is not thrilled about the current law. She's been fighting to change it and because of her persistence, the law was strengthened in the state.

Right now, the voyeurism law says if an illegal image is transmitted over a mobile device, it's a felony.

"Voyeurism needs to be a sex crime in the state of Indiana. Women need to be protected," said Stone.

Stone said she originally supported Mittler getting help, but two wrongs can't make him right.

"I believe that people can be rehabilitated; I believe they are deserving of a second chance. This guy already had a second chance," she said.

Mittler has an initial court appearance Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

Stone said she plans to be there and will have a small group with her to make sure he doesn't get out of jail to commit this crime again.
