INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - New development in Thursday's armed robbery of a Family Dollar. Minutes after the robbery, the suspects’ vehicle crashed into the Stepping Stones Child Care center on the northeast side.
Police recently released a photo of a third man they want to talk to in connection with the robbery.
Police describe 28-year-old Nathaniel Harris as a violent offender.
A police report suggests officers found identification belonging to Harris in the suspects get away car.
Friday morning, police released mug shots of the two suspects they arrested shortly after the day care crash. They are identified as 21-year-old Darron Crowe and 19-year-old Theo Sanford. Both face charges of robbery and fleeing law enforcement.
The two men are currently being held in the Marion County Jail.
24-Hour News 8 obtained surveillance video taken inside the Family Dollar store. The video shows two armed men entering the store and robbing the store clerk. IMPD detectives said the two men were inside the store for at least 2 and a half minutes.
Several 911 calls were made during the robbery. Some were made from inside the store and others from businesses nearby.
Caller: I just been robbed by a gun at 5135 North
Keystone Family Dollar.
911: Black, Hispanic, how many?
Caller: Ah two, Black.
911: What color car?
Caller: I got no idea I had a gun in my face and
that’s it they ran out the door. It’s a red Jeep
Cherokee.
911: Did you get a plate number?
Caller: We don’t got a plate number
it’s a red Jeep Cherokee off of Keystone, 5135.
911: Sir, calm down please these are questions I
have to ask.
Caller: I don’t have any more information
that’s it.
911: Did you see what color gun.
Caller: It was a black gun.
After the robbery, the suspects fled and led police on a short
chase. According to police the suspects were travelling at a high
rate of speed when they ignored a red light at the intersection of
46th and Allisonville. Police say the suspects car hit another
vehicle at the intersection but kept heading south on Allisonville.
The officer in pursuit of the suspects watched as the Jeep veered
off the road and slammed into the day care center.
Four children and one adult from the day care were taken to
the hospital. Police say one child remains at Methodist hospital in
serious but stable condition.
New place for day care after bad crash
The owners of Stepping Stones Day Care told parents to bring
their children to another building while the old building is being
repaired.
The new location is 5060 East 62nd Street.
Authorities said the crash could have been much worse.
17 kids there at the time of the crash, could've been more
had the other children not been on a field trip.
“It's hectic to see on television. It's surreal and
then you think, oh my God my granddaughter is there. You rush over
and you can't get past the tape and everyone says stay back,”
said Reggie Holt, a grandfather.
Doors opened at 5 a.m. on Friday at the new location. No word
yet as to when Stepping Stones Day Care will re-open.
