Violent suspect sends officer to hospital

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Detectives and the Indianapolis Crime Lab are investigating a shooting in the Broad Ripple area that occurred early Sunday morning.
IMPD says 25-year-old Justin Maltsberger has been arrested on preliminary charges of battery on police and resisting law enforcement.
Maltsberger was resisting arrest and attempted to disarm the officer near 61st Street and Birchwood.
During the struggle, a shot was fired. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was later captured in the 5900 block of Carvel Avenue.
Homicide detectives and the crime lab are now investigating this incident.
The officer has been sent to a local hospital for minor injuries. He has been identified as a 24-year veteran of IMPD.
Maltsberger was transported to Wishard Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He is said to be in good condition and is currently being held at the Wishard detention facility.
