Woman arrested after animal shelter meltdown

FRANKLIN, Ind. (Daily Journal) - What was a normal visit to an animal shelter Monday turned into a violent situation that landed a woman in jail, 24-Hour News 8’s news partner, the Daily Journal , reports.

Authorities told the newspaper that 43-year-old Jennifer Jo Skeel went to the Johnson County Animal Shelter with her mother to pick up a cat. But Skeel became upset when workers at the shelter discussed fees.

Workers said Skeel began yelling and threw binders on the floor. When the animal warden tried to calm her down, she grabbed a music stand, swinging it and hitting the warden. His attempt to restrain Skeel failed, and she hit him in the face.

As workers called police, the warden used his pepper spray on Skeel. Officials said Skeel resisted police when they arrived, but she was eventually arrested on preliminary charges of battery and disorderly conduct.

Skeel bonded out of the Johnson County Jail.
