Woman explains why she turned in father

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - Nearly two months after a Noblesville man was arrested for possessing child pornography, the person who turned him in is telling 24-Hour News 8 why she did it.

"I finally got brave enough to call and I did," said Natasha Barnette of Westfield.

Natasha Barnette, 21, said she can rest a little easier at night.

Now, she spends most of her time looking after her 9-month-old son Corbin and enjoying life with her boyfriend. For most of her life she said she lived in fear.

"I'm terrified to face him," Natasha said.

Natasha is talking about her own father, 42-year-old Samuel Barnette. She called police after she found child pornography on his laptop.

"They found very graphic videos and images, very, very violent videos of children," Natasha said. "I felt really ashamed about that and now I realize I have no reason to be. I did the right thing."

Barnette had been working at Promise Road Elementary School in Noblesville for just three weeks. His daughter uncovered his secret just two days before school was to start.

Barnette was employed at the new school as a janitor.

"I was terrified about him going and working with lots of kids, especially little kids and terrified for their safety and I wanted to protect them," Natasha said.

She also wanted to protect herself. Through all of this, she also kept a secret. Her father abused her. Natasha is now free after 21 years.

"It just helped me realized that it wasn't just me; it wasn't my fault; it wasn't me that was doing anything wrong to deserved being abused," she said.

Natasha wants other victims to know they have a voice; they will be heard.

"There are people out there that will keep you safe and they shouldn't be afraid," she said.

Natasha is getting help for her abuse and her mother's side of the family have showered her with love and support.

Over the weekend she created her own link on Youtube. It's called: Life In the Eyes of Abuse.

It's more of her story and how she continues to survive, living with the pain she says her own father caused in her life.

Samuel Barnette is currently in jail awaiting trial.
