LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A 21-year-old Indiana woman has been sentenced to 44 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges she plotted with two other people to beat her boyfriend to death and hide his body in a shallow grave.
The Journal & Courier reports that Carolann Clear of Lafayette was sentenced Friday in Tippecanoe County Superior Court. Clear pleaded guilty in February 2012 to charges of conspiracy to commit murder and fraud in the July 2011 death of 26-year-old Jeremy Gibson.
Prosecutors agreed to drop charges of murder and criminal confinement in return for her guilty plea.
Prosecutors said Clear goaded two other men as they beat her boyfriend and persuaded them to bury Gibson's body.
One of the men will be sentenced Jan. 29. The other died in prison.
