Indianapolis, IN - Indianapolis police are investigating two deaths in less than a 24-hour period, but despite that, the statistics show homicides in the city are down year-to-date.
By this time in 2011, there were 48 homicides in Indianapolis. So far this year, there’s been 36. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department credits the decrease to zone policing, under which more resources are devoted to high-crime areas in the city.
“Zone policing has tremendously helped reduce homicides and any other violent crimes in the city," said IMPD spokesman Anthony Schneider. "Once we get those numbers we are studying them,” said Anthony Schneider.
Nonetheless, Thursday was a busy day for homicide detectives.
Police said 45-year-old Kathryn Beilouny was found dead in her home in the 5800 block of North Keystone Avenue. Detectives are investigating her death as a possible homicide.
And in an apartment in the 3300 block of North Meridian Street, Johnny Allen, 38, was found stabbed to death and wrapped in a carpet Thursday afternoon. IMPD has arrested Allen's friend, David Gaines, 41, in the killing and preliminarily charged him with murder.
