INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana's public schools superintendent said he's not surprised other educators are resisting his new plans for teacher and administrator requirements.

Among other things, he wants future teachers to major in a specific field of study such as math or science and minor in education. That would be a complete reversal of the current process.

Bennett presented the idea to the Indiana Professional Standards Board on Wednesday and got strong resistance.

24-Hour News 8 asked Dr. Tony Bennett about the criticism on Daybreak Thursday morning.

"Yes, teaching skills, those are very important. But content knowledge, you can't teach math if you don't know math. You can't teach chemistry if you don't know chemistry. So we have to have strong content knowledge from our teachers," said Dr. Bennett.
