INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Statewide standardized test scores for Indiana students increased again in 2011, according to results released by the Indiana Department of Education on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s ISTEP+ results are based on tests taken by third- to eighth-graders between Feb. 28 and March 9 and again from April 25 and May 4 this year.

English and social studies scores statewide saw the greatest jump in 2011. The average percentage of all students passing the English portion climbed from 76 percent in 2010 to 78 percent in 2011. The two grade levels — fifth and seventh grades — taking social studies had an average 67 percent of students pass, compared to 65 percent in 2010.
Math scores also climbed, with the percentage of Hoosier students passing increasing from 78 percent to 79 percent. Overall, 69 percent of fourth and sixth grade students passed the science portion, compared to 68 percent in 2010.
Districtwide, Indianapolis Public Schools saw a dip in its scores in 2011. In 2010, 45.1 percent of IPS students passed both math and English portions. The number dropped slightly to 44.6 percent in 2011.
Nearby, Franklin Township’s district scores improved from 76.4 percent of students passing both math and English to 78.5 percent passing both in 2011.
