IU plans more GPS-friendly signs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana University is replacing building signs around the sprawling Bloomington so that they are friendlier to those trying to get around by using GPS devices.

Such devices and online mapping services rely on street addresses, but most IU campus buildings have had no visible addresses to guide visitors.

The Herald-Times reports ( http://bit.ly/HWI0fd ) that over the next three years about 160 signs in front of campus buildings will be replaced with markers that include the IU logo, the building name and its street address.

University associate vice president John Lewis says the new signs will be more functional and also give a more consistent appearance across the 42,000-student campus.

IU plans similar sign changes at its regional campuses in the coming years.
