INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - A former executive with the NCAA has agreed to become acting president at Martin University after its current president retires at the end of the year.
Dr. Charlotte Westerhaus was previously vice president of diversity and inclusion at the Indianapolis-based NCAA. Dr. Algeania Freeman is stepping down from the Martin University post on Dec. 31. She had been with the university for three years.
"We are most pleased that Dr. Westerhaus, a nationally recognized expert in multicultural education and work force diversity and inclusion, will be working closely with staff, faculty and the board to preserve the progress made under Dr. Freeman and prepare the university for its leadership transition," said John Bartlett, chairman of Martin's board of trustees.
Martin University has a primary goal of serving low-income, minority and nontraditional learners.
