Nobel winners celebrate professor

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Purdue University will celebrate the life of the late Professor H.C. Brown with a weeklong celebration marking the 100-year anniversary of his birth, highlighted by the appearance of two of his students who won Nobel Prizes.

Brown won the 1979 Nobel Prize for chemistry for his pioneering work in organic chemistry. Purdue University Professor Ei-Ichi Negishi and Sapporo University Professor Akira Suzuki will take part in the celebration, which runs from June 3 to June 9.

Negishi and Suzuki will speak June 9. They won the Nobel for their work that has helped give mankind new medicines and revolutionary materials such as plastics.

Friends, colleagues and former students of Brown will get together June 7 and 8 to celebrate his life and accomplishments.
