School tells teacher no pregnant girls section in yearbook

KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. (WISH) - A Knightstown High School English teacher won't be back following this school year for what the school district is describing as "poor performance" in the classroom.

The school acknowledges that the teacher, K.C. Salter, was in charge of the yearbook committee and was planning a "pregnant girls" section in the book, which the school says it was adamantly against.

"There had been a student who had taken offense to being approached by another student wanting to take a picture. That student got upset and we responded firmly and seized the operation that was going on and performed and investigation from that point," Knightstown Principal Scott Ritchie said.

Sophomore Devin Byrd said what Salter did was wrong.

“Yeah, there is a problem with teen pregnancy around here. But it's not right to exploit them, doing the yearbook thing like that."

But not all students agree.

"I think he should've been confronted about it but I don't think he should've been fired," another student said.

Salter will finish out the school year and he will also help finish the yearbook.

Administrators say they will keep a close eye on the finished product.
