Students get cash for filling out FAFSA

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Forget good grades and resume-padding extracurricular activities. Nearly 40 Indiana students are getting $1,000 college scholarships just for filling out their financial aid forms on time.

The 39 students were randomly selected to receive "Cash for College" scholarships valid at Indiana colleges.

The drawing was an incentive for students to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA. State Commissioner for Higher Education Teresa Lubbers says filing the FAFSA is a crucial step for high school students because it helps determine who is eligible for billions of dollars in federal and state grants, college aid, scholarships and work-study programs.

The Cash for College campaign is run by Learn More Indiana, a group that aims to help Indiana residents plan, prepare and pay for college.
