While most of us are spending quality time with family members this holiday, many Hoosiers are out on the streets helping the less fortunate.
We caught up with volunteers who tell us giving back is the best Christmas gift.
It’s a tough life living on the street.
“It’s rough out here its hard do anything to keep warm,” said a homeless man.
To make the season brighter for the less fortunate volunteers spent much of the morning handing out gifts of warmth and food to those who live in Indianapolis' so-called "tent city".
Melissa Wieland says she is happy to be able to make a person's day just a little brighter. “It’s a good feeling to help everybody, everybody need a little help every now and again. ”
But the help did not end under the bridge. The Rock Bottom Restaurant served more than 600 meals to the homeless and needy.
“Not everybody can have a hot delicious meal on Christmas or Thanksgiving it makes you feel good and its part of the Christmas spirit of giving,” said Tony Hiatt General manager of the Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery.
“The fact that all these people are putting this together to help out the less fortunate it’s really amazing,” remarked a happy customer.
Unfortunately for many, once this meal is over, it’s back to life on the streets.
