FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) - A new Hamilton Southeastern student is coming forward with claims she was bullied at school... as the parents of a 14-year-old... get ready to bury their son.
Marcus Bell's parents believe he killed himself... because of years of bullying. Jeanette Levin is a 16 year old sophomore at HSE. She sent us an email that read in part.
"I'm not the only kid in our school who has tried to commit suicide because of the actions made by other students at HSE..And because of the actions that haven't been made by faculty".
She reached out to us.
"The approach that the students are coming at it's more than just bullying it's harassment. And the lack of what teachers are doing about, isn't good," Levin said.
She saw our coverage on Friday night. 14 year old freshman, Marcus Bell took his own life last week after his parents say he was bullied in the school district for years.
"No parent should have to make the decisions that we have to make right now or should have to go through what we're going through right now," Natalie Moore, Bell's mother told us.
We reached out to Hamilton Southeastern and got this statement from Marianna Richards with Hamilton Southeastern Schools Friday.
"Events like these cause all of us to wonder what might have led to this tragedy. As we learn more about the situation, we will be prepared to examine any circumstances that warrant our review."
" I know that when school starts up again tomorrow, I will have a lot of supporters and I will have a lot of people bullying me for doing this." Levin added
But Jeanette says her story has to be told. The bullying she says began in grade school. Sick and tired of her complaints falling on deaf ears... she says she had enough.
"Came home and I slit my wrists," Levin said.
The school district does have a policy in place. We found it in Hamilton Southeastern's student handbook, Section 16 titled Bullying.
"It says, first account up to 3 days out school suspension, the second is 5 days, third time around you're expelled and that's not happening" Levin said.
Monday is the first day back to school for the students from Fall Break. And we will continue to ask questions about the district's policy regarding bullying and what it plans to do now.
