INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Though no Hoosiers won the big Powerball prize, two tickets sold in Indiana did win the buyers $1 million each. And one of those winners said he had rather modest plans for the money.
Larry Chandler, from the northern Indiana city of Highland, told the Hoosier Lottery he plans to help his mother, start a college fund for his daughter and take his girlfriend out to dinner at Red Lobster.
“This doesn’t happen to me! It’s crazy. I’ve never won anything,” Chandler said.
He selected his own numbers, and hit all five, but not the Powerball. He claimed his winnings at the Indianapolis Hoosier Lottery office Thursday morning.
The other $1 million ticket sold in the state was bought at United PSM in Vincennes and had not been claimed as of Thursday afternoon.
Two players hit the record $587.5 million jackpot and will split the winnings. The winning tickets were sold in Arizona and Missouri.
