INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Eleven communities around Indiana will share $75,000 in grants to develop trails designed to attract tourists.
After the successes of the state's Pete Dye Golf Trail and the Northern Indiana Art and Earth Trail, the Indiana Office of Tourism Development encouraged communities to submit trail proposals that showcase an area's distinctiveness.
Among the grant recipients are Harrison County, which is getting $9,000 to develop the Indiana Cave Trail, and DeKalb County, which is receiving $7,500 to develop an Interstate 69 Golf Trail.
Other grant recipients are Hendricks, Dearborn, Hamilton and Daviess counties, the Southern Indiana Regional Marketing Cooperative, the cities of Madison, Bloomington, and South Bend/Mishawaka; and Marion-Grant County.
The grants vary in their amounts.
