3-year-old kills father with handgun

WASHINGTON CO., Ind. (WISH) - A 3-year-old found a loaded handgun and shot his father Friday night, killing him.

Washington County Police were dispatched to a home in Salem after receiving a call about a man being shot.

Police arrived around 10 p.m. and found Michael A. Bayless, 33 of Martinsville, deceased.

According to a release from the Indiana State Police, Bayless was watching TV with his 2 children and wife. A 3-year-old child found a loaded handgun in the house and accidentally discharged the gun, striking Bayless.

Bayless was pronounced dead on the scene. No one else was injured at the house.

This is an ongoing investigation.
