JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (AP) — Five southern Indiana homes in the path of a new Ohio River bridge project will be relocated as part of a settlement agreement.
The agreement between the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the conservation group River Fields Inc. and Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials dedicates $1.7 million to a historic preservation and enhancement fund.
Indiana Department of Transportation spokesman Will Wingfield tells News and Tribune that relocating the five homes located in the Jeffersonville Historic District has been given a priority status. The homes are slated for demolition for a new bridge between Jeffersonville and Louisville, Ky.
Greg Sekula of Indiana Landmarks says the goal is to use the homes built between the late 1800s and 1930 as in-fill in vacant lots near or in the historic district.
