INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - All Indiana voters must have a valid government-issued ID in hand at the poll. The BMV has extended its hours to make sure anyone who doesn't have one can get one in time to vote on Election Day on Tuesday.
The state's 138 license branches will be open through 8 p.m. Monday night, and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday - the same hours the polls are open Tuesday. The only business that can be conducted on Election Day, however, is obtaining an ID.
The law states that the required ID must be government-issued and have an expiration date, so there are other forms of ID that qualify beyond what the state BMV issues, Dennis Rosebrough, deputy commissioner of the BMV said.
However, those still need an ID from the BMV who are obtaining a state ID for the first time should proof of identity, such as an original or certified copy of a birth certificate or a U.S. passport; social security card; and two proofs of residency, such as a bank statement and utility bill.
