Carroll student dies in
crash on US 30

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - The Allen County Sheriff's Department says a 17-year-old girl is dead after a 2-car accident on U.S. 30 West. 

It happened Monday morning around 7:40 a.m.

Officials at Carroll High School have confirmed that the victim, 17-year-old Audrea D. Gregory, was one of their students.  Authorities have confirmed that she was 6 months pregnant.  The fetus also died.

Four other people in the car were taken to the hospital in serious condition.  Police have identified them as 16-year-old Brittney M. Gregory, 15-year-old Whitney Gregory, 16-year-old Evan Gregory, and 15-year-old Justen Gregory.

The Allen County Sheriff's Department says Audrea Gregory was driving northbound on O'Day Road, when her car was struck in the side by a red pick-up truck that was eastbound on U.S. 30 West.

Audrea Gregory was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the truck, 59-year-old Dennis Bechtold of Columbia City, was taken to a local hospital in fair condition.

The Allen County Sheriff's Department and the F.A.C.T. Team are investigating the crash.

Meanwhile, several hundred students have gathered at the Pathway Community Church to take part in a memorial service.  A larger service is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m.  The church is located at 11910 Shearwater Run.  The phone number is 469-4444.
